The senior boys go into this year’s OFSAA championship ranked one spot higher, after a strong performance at last year’s championship.

The Vs are ranked #7 among the twenty high school champions. Last year they were ranked eighth, and made it to the quarter-finals where they were beaten by the eventual champions from Quinte Christian HS, 25-8, 25-23, 25-22.

One of the keys in that run was a loss to Durham Christian (Bowmanville), the number four seed, in the round-robin. That was the Vs only loss in the round-robin, and cost them first place in their pool.

They will get a chance to avenge that loss this year – Durham Christian, seeded number three this time, is again in their pool. The Vs will face them Thursday afternoon (4:30 pm), after matches against Acton District HS (seeded 13; that match is at 10:30 am) and University of Toronto Schools (seeded 10, and last year’s bronze medalists, 1:30 pm). They close the round-robin with a match against Chatham Christian Friday afternoon (1 pm; they get Friday morning off).

Last year’s champions, Quinte Christian HS, are back, and seeded third. The number one seed is Louis Riel HS of Ottawa, which was the number three seed last year, and was knocked off by Durham Christian in the quarter-finals.
