The Atikokan Family Health Team confirmed it will move out of the Clinic building on Marks St. to the former Tramin offices on Mackenzie Ave., as soon as renovations there are complete.
The Family Health Team staff now working upstairs in the Clinic will remain there for the time being, executive director Jennifer Learning told Council. There has been no indication from the physicians, or any of the other tenants of the Clinic building (Community Counselling, Rexall Pharmacy, Atikokan Chiropractic) that they intend to move.
The FHT started looking for alternative quarters this summer, after struggling for several years with a shortage of space, access issues, and climate control problems with its space in the basement of the Clinic building.
Tramin bought the former Moffatt Supply facility on Mackenzie last year, and moved its offices there this year. Its former building, located about two blocks from the hospital and across the street from the Ontario Service offices, has been vacant since.
Mayor Brown expressed disappointment with the FHTès decision to move at Council’s meeting Monday. He cited a 2010 community survey about the location of medical clinic services to which 800 responded. They favoured, by an almost two-to-one margin, a downtown location to one at or near the hospital.
